Coogan Administration Releases $551 Million FY 2027 Budget

On Tuesday, Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan presented the city council with a budget for Fiscal Year 2027 totaling $551 million.

The spending plan includes $484.45 million for general government, $18 million for the Emergency Medical Services, and $48.55 million for the water and sewer departments. The mayor says the budget process began late last year and is built from the bottom up.

The general budget increases spending by 6.2 percent over FY 2026. The city’s tax levy will increase at the maximum rate of 2.5%. The mayor says a large portion of spending each year is dictated by state and contractual mandates.

Mayor Coogan says Fall River remains in a strong financial position, with over $20 million in its stabilization fund.

The city council has 45 days to approve, reject, or reduce the budget before it takes effect on July 1.
