SRTA Sees Record Ridership Due to Fare-Free Service

The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) experienced record ridership numbers since the start of fare-free service over two years ago.

Free fixed-route and on-demand services have been made possible through an influx of state funding from the Fair Share Amendment, also known as the Millionaire’s Tax in Massachusetts

Mr. Rousseau says SRTA was a leader in recovering from ridership losses during the pandemic.

As riders support convenient bus service within the city, including the return of Sunday service, SRTA has partnered with other regional transit authorities to expand free or low-cost options outside of Fall River.

With a surge in growth and popularity, Mr. Rousseau is hopeful that fare-free service will continue for years to come.
