Enrollment in the Fall River public schools is up, and the school department is in the final stages of implementing a redistricting plan, resulting in some students switching schools beginning this fall.

Interim deputy superintendent Elizabeth Legault says the details of the plan have been in the works for some time and are centered on student success.

The plan calls for converting the Letourneau School into a K-8 grade community school while reworking school boundaries to spread out capacity across schools.

Neighborhood meetings were held this week to seek parent input on how the plan may impact their children.

The meetings are all part of the district’s plan to empower parents to remain engaged in their child’s education.

The school committee is scheduled to vote on the redistricting plan at its meeting next week. Parents impacted by the redistricting plan will be notified of any changes by June 1st.
