The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released each school district’s 2026 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test results. The results for most Fall River schools were not much different from a year ago.
The MCAS tests students’ proficiency in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and technology in grades three through eight and tenth grade in high school.
At the elementary and middle school levels (grades 3 through 8) in the Fall River public schools, 18 percent of students met or exceeded expectations in English. That is down from 19 percent in 2025. The statewide average is 40 percent. 44 percent of students partially met expectations, while 38 percent did not meet expectations.
In math, 18 percent of students exceeded or met expectations, the same as last year. The statewide average is 41 percent. 48 percent of students partially met expectations, with 34 percent not meeting expectations.
In grades five through eight, students taking the science test exceeded or met expectations at a 15 percent rate, down from 18 percent a year ago. That compares to 41 percent statewide. 43 percent partially met expectations, and 42 percent did not.
In the second year that eighth graders completed the civics test, 10 percent exceeded or met expectations, compared to 40 percent across the state. 57 percent partially met expectations. 33 percent did not meet expectations.
Scores of tenth graders at Durfee were also mixed. In English, 30 percent of students exceeded or met expectations, down from 32 percent in 2025. 45 percent of tenth graders statewide met those standards. 42 percent at Durfee partially met expectations, while 28 percent did not meet expectations.
In math, Durfee students exceeded or met expectations at 16 percent, down from 17 percent last year and compared to 44 percent statewide. 52 percent partially met expectations, with 32 percent not meeting expectations.
Science scores at Durfee showed 17 percent of tenth graders exceeded or met the standards, down from 18 percent in 2025 and compared to 41 percent statewide. 41 percent partially met expectations. 42 percent did not meet expectations.
Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School tenth graders saw scores also on par with a year ago. 37 percent exceeded or met state standards in English, down from 40 percent last year. Students exceeded or met math and science scores at a clip of 30 and 18 percent, respectively, compared to 25 and 20 percent in 2025. 49 percent partially met expectations in English while 57 and 49 percent did so in math and science. 15 percent did not meet expectations in English, while 13 and 32 percent did not meet expectations in math and science.
At the Argosy Collegiate Charter School, students in grades six through eight exceeded or met the standards in English at 21 percent (17 percent in 2025), math at 24 percent (18 percent in 2025), and science at 21 percent (14 percent in 2025). Tenth graders scored 40 percent in English (32 percent in 2025), 21 percent in math (31 percent in 2025), and 26 percent in science (34 percent in 2025)
At the Atlantis Charter School, elementary and middle school students exceeded or met the standards in English at 25 percent (27 percent in 2025), math at 24 percent (25 percent in 2025), and science at 16 percent (23 percent in 2025). Tenth graders saw a significant drop in scores: 15 percent in English (37 percent in 2025), 11 percent in math (22 percent in 2025), and 8 percent in science (14 percent in 2024).
