The Fall River Police Department has released 18 months of crime data, covering 2025 and the first six months of 2026.
A look at the numbers shows that, thus far this year, overall crime in the city is declining compared to the first half of 2025.
For 2025, violent crime in the city was up over 17% compared to 2024, while overall crime was up nearly 7%. Since 2020, overall crime in Fall River has been down 2.6%.
Chief Hoar says arrests are up from 2024, which he attributes to efforts over the past year to increase the ranks by 27 officers.
The chief says the department has used data to implement proactive policing practices, including the creation of specialty units and assignments, that have had a positive impact in fighting crime. The department has also prioritized its interactions with members of the community.
Chief Hoar still serves the department on an interim basis and has shown interest in applying to serve as the full-time chief when that process commences.
