The Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services held a conference today at Bristol Community College seeking to pair veterans with local employment opportunities.
40 regional employers and educational institutions were on hand to greet over 100 veterans expected to participate in the conference. There were also a series of workshops held to introduce veterans to top employment categories available in the Commonwealth.
Veterans Services Secretary Dr. Eric Goralnick says veterans display soft skills that make them attractive to employers.
Dr. Goralnick says there are many employment sectors where veterans can transfer their military experience into the workforce, except for a lack of an educational credential. One example is in healthcare, which is constantly looking for new, experienced employees.
200,000 service members leave the military each year and re-enter civilian life. Dr. Goralnick says many of them seek support services through their local Veterans Services Officer (VSO).
