Slew of Events Round Out June at the Fall River Public Library

The Fall River Public Library has released its list of events through the end of the month.

Tuesday, June 16th at 5:30pm: Accordion Bookbinding Workshop

Adults are invited to make an accordion book as a medium to display their art, illustrations, photographs or stories. Andre Lee Bassuet will instruct attendees on the basic tools of bookbinding and how to incorporate their own artwork in books. No prior experience is necessary. Space is limited; registration is required. Additional bookbinding workshops will be held on 7/15 and 8/13; registration opens one month prior to the class. This event will take place in the meeting room.

Wednesday, June 17th at 6pm: Vincent; a Portrait by the Postman Roulin

Author, educator, and actor Ted Zalewski portrays Vincent Van Gogh’s loyal friend the Postman, Joseph Roulin. He relates Van Gogh’s amazing personal and artistic journey from his native Holland to the south of France. Drawn from extensive research into van Gogh’s art, life and letters, this show is filled with humor, passion, joie de vivre—and the triumph of an unlikely friendship. This event will take place in the meeting room.

Thursday, June 18th at 6pm: Driftwood Wind Chime Craft

Join Stephanie Enloe of Craftyish Shop to create a driftwood wind chime. Space is limited; registration is required. Recommended for adults. This event will take place in the meeting room. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Wednesday, June 24th at 4pm: Make a 3-D Butterfly

This colorful fellow is made from a plastic Easter egg! He is easy to assemble and makes a great summer decoration for your room! Recommended for ages 4 and up. This event will take place in the children’s room.

Wednesday, June 24th at 4:30pm: Magic: The Gathering Draft

Join us for a free three hour Magic the Gathering draft. Space is limited and registration is required; call 508-324-2700 ext. 2 to sign up. For adults and teens ages 13+. The event begins promptly at 4:30pm in the Nagle Room and late arrivals cannot be accommodated. Supplies generously provided by the Magikids organization.

Thursday, June 25th at 6pm: Holocaust Survivor Talk

Holocaust survivor Janet Singer Applefield will discuss how she was hidden during the Holocaust from ages 5 to 10, the dangers she faced during and after the war, and what happened to her parents and extended family. This talk will take you on a poignant journey as you learn how Janet triumphs over the darkest chapter of human history, rebuilding her life with resilience, inspiring hope, and carrying the enduring legacy of remembrance. This event will take place in the meeting room.

Friday, June 26th at 2pm: Summer Yoga Series

Enjoy a welcoming, beginner-friendly, all levels yoga flow experience. This class will open with a brief guided meditation. You’ll then be encouraged to move and awaken your body through yoga postures in an intuitive way that is accessible to you. A Synergy of Sound Healing Savasana (yogic nap) seals in this nurturing Sva Ha Yoga class. Guided by Andrea DeVeau-Cabral of Power and Grace Yoga (E-RYT 500hr). Please bring water and a yoga mat if possible. This event will take place in the meeting room every Friday through August 28th.

Tuesday, June 30th at 11am: Summer Reading Kick off with the Toe Jam Puppet Band

Join us on the lawn as we kick-off another exciting summer of fun with the Toe Jam Puppet Band! Children ages 12 and younger can sign up for this year’s summer reading club, Amazing Things Happen at the Library! Free “Book Buddies” will be given away while supplies last to children signing up for the 7 week program. We are also asking children to help name this year’s summer mascot, our Book Drop Monster. Official entry blanks will be made available at the kick-off. A special prize will be awarded to the winner! The summer reading club is generously sponsored by Rockland Trust and the Friends of the Fall River Public Library.

Tuesday, June 30th at 1pm: Trustees Mobile Adventures – A Bug’s Life!

Learn all about bugs and why they’re important to the world around us! Activities will include bug examination, insect crafts and nature play. Run by Trustees Mobile Adventures. This event will take place in the children’s room.
