MassDOT began its process last week to decide how the 20-plus acres of land on Rte. 79 along Fall River’s waterfront will be developed.
The agency released a 71-page Invitation to Bid document for prospective developers.
Tom Cox, who is handling the marketing of the property on behalf of the state through Greystone Real Estate Advisory Group, says the process for developing the land has been streamlined and represents a unique opportunity for Fall River.
Reconstructing the Rte. 79 and Davol Street took nearly three years, and developing the property could take up to a decade.
Even though the state controls the land, MassDOT established its bid specifications based on work done by the city…and its input will remain integral through the project’s completion.
As the process moves forward, the public will be allowed to comment on the project through public meetings and the city’s zoning and permitting process.
