As Energy Costs Rise, Citizens for Citizens Expects Greater Interest in its Heating Assistance Program

As fuel and energy costs rise, winter is likely to be expensive for those struggling to pay their heating bills.

Citizens for Citizens, Inc. (CFC) in Fall River is prepping for another season of its home energy assistance program, which will begin helping those pay their energy bills, whether they heat with oil or natural gas, in November.

CFC executive director Elizabeth Berube says the program provides financial assistance to low-income and working households.

Program director Dennis Medeiros says this year’s income guidelines are generous and should benefit more Fall River residents.

Those accepted into the heating assistance program can also benefit from home energy efficiency programs that can save them more money.

Utility companies are also assisting families to reduce their energy bills.

CFC assists between 13,000 and 15,000 families in Greater Fall River and Greater Taunton. Those looking to renew their assistance are now receiving their applications after a delay from the state.
